There are a number of different places where currency exchange is possible.
1. He can do it while at the airport either in Britain or the US. Almost all airports have places to exchange currency.
2. A US Post Office will also exchange currency as well.
3. Most local banks will do currency exchange.
4. An ATM machine will allow him to withdrawl American dollars. Be aware of very high service charges for this method though.
5. Most credit cards will automatically exchange currency with a credit card purchase.
I recently traveled to Britain from the United States and found that using my credit card to buy things in Britain gave me the best exchange rate and was very convienent. If he needs currency, I would advise him to pay very careful attention to the exchange rate. If he is not getting about $1.85 per British pound, he is getting ripped off. Probably any major bank in your area - I am sure he could do it at Seattle Int'l Airport - but that rate there will be bad. |

Most international airports have some form of currency exchange.
Check out Seattle/Tacoma. Not sure what you are near. Banks might be able to give you some leads. Call first.
Don't expect any bargains on the exchange. You'll pay going from Sterling to Dollars and from Dollars to Sterling. So, maybe avoid going from Dollars to Sterling and spend all the pounds he converts. |

When he first lands in the US, there should be a booth in the airport where he can exchange his pounds for dollars. Keep in mind that 1) he cannot exchange coins and 2) he may be better off using his credit card.
He should check to see if his credit card company charges any international usage fees. If not, using his credit card will allow him to get the best exchange rate. |

Most large banks do it. He can also do it at most airports that have foreign visitors. He can go to his bank in England and the can convert his pounds to dollars. Also in the airport in England there are booths run by banks wher you can exchange currency. |
