That is a very subjective question. The answer depends on several things.
1. Are you a cat person or a dog person or do you like both?
Some people prefer cats because they normally are independent and don't slobber all over you. Much of the time all they want is to be left alone, but at other times they can be very friendly. A cat also does not require as much care as a dog. You do not have to bathe them or take them for walks. They are low Maintenance with a capital M. Another advantage of cats is that they are small and very adaptable to apartment living. Also they unlike some dogs do not eat a great deal.
Now the case for dogs. They are not called man's or woman's best friend for no reason. If you are reasonably kind to them they will make you their best friend for ever and ever. They will love you more than your spouse (a lot more). In fact spouses have been known to become extremely jealous of dogs. Dogs come in many flavors. You can pick the flavor that suits you. Some dogs, such as Italian Grayhounds, are smaller than some cats and short haired so they do not have to be groomed often. Other dogs such as Labrador Retrievers would rather go swimming than about anything. So if you like to go swimming, this is your kind of dog and they are cutter than can be imagined. |

A dog will at least bark for alerting you to undesired things like trespassers etc. A cat seems cannot be taught much but most are snugly. Suggest you have one of each and small dog costs less to feed: If where you live, pets are allowed. I don't need any dog that bites, since their bark will place the task of defense on me. I'll deal with it in a heartbeat! |

Properly taken care of, neither animal will stink, despite what others have said. It all depends on what you want from your pet. If you want an emotionally dependent being, then a dog is perfect. They always are so happy to see you, they can't get enough love & show their excitement. If you want a more relaxed relationship, cats are the way to go. They may not meet you at the door, and often treat you as if you are only here to feed them and clean out the litter box, but then they will curl up in your lap, or snuggle your face when you need them most. Just remember, either will take work. If you have a lot of bad weather where you live, you may not want to be walking a dog several times a day either. |

dogs snd cats are my fav but dogs can bite and cats hvae claws. They both hurt you and they are both kind to you. You should not be able to just pick one. That is what I say and what I feel about pets in their ways of bad and good. |

I dont like either, only because i have kids and can't see cleaning after an animal and children, not to mention the cute stuff kids like to do like dump the food dishes and stuff but if I had to choose on, id choose a cat...who stays indoor ...lol |
