It sounds like what they've done where I live and all I can say is that it'll be more of a main road with higher speeds and more traffic. It is never a good thing when they go and widen the road where you live. I've seen people lose half their front yards and it is alot harder to back out and get going. I would petition or go to the city planning meeting and find out if they will put speed bumps or post signs with the required speeds allowed and if that is acceptable to you. Wider road more traffic and usually higher speeds. Hang in there and Good Luck! |

definately when there's more room. if the streets aren't as wide, i'm less likely to speed cause it's harder to stay within the lines and fear of hitting something darting out into the street. if it's a high traffic area... then widening the street won't do much (since the street would already be at max capacity). it would also depend on the speed enforcement level in you area. (if you complain, they'll eventually set up a speed trap in your area). |

I agree with the county. I'm more likely to speed in areas where there is little police coverage, especially on 'country roads'. |

i think that there is a chance people will want to drive faster on a wider road. a wider road seems safer for any mistakes to be made. on a wider road you are less likely to hit a park car, or to swerve into the other lane. it is less likely for these things to happen, so people think it is safer to driver faster. |

It depends. People will drive as fast as they safely can. If the road widens, it doesn't necesarily mean people will drive faster especially if it only widens for reasons such as bike lanes, left and right turn lanes etc. It will just make it safer for all to be on. If more through lanes, then most people will still follow speed limits and if not, police patrol, speed bumps, children playing signs, and stop signs can be used to slow them down. I say it makes roads safer though! |

put bumps in the road ,like they do in mexico or pieces of logs .that will slow anybody down.or zebra crossings with real zebras. |

How do they figure that? If there's more room to drive on, then people will definately take advantage of it and speed. |

Don't worry, by the time they get done widening the road it will be right back to solid traffic and no one will be able to speed anyway. the governments idea of fixing roads is "it's a short term solution for a long term problem". |

I agree with you, all else being equal. However, if the wider road is better policed, has sharper bends, etc. that would also have to be taken into account. But all alse being equal I would tend to go faster on the wider road because I safely can. |
