The bible says, "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thy heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." Romans 10:9
I believe the bible. I have confessed, and I believe, so I am saved.
The bible doesn't say that salvation is something we have to work towards. It does not say confess, believe, and do God's will, or confess, believe, and be a good person. Only to confess and believe.
"For by grace are ye saved through faith, and that not of yourselves: it is a gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast." Ephesians 4:8-9
Here it is clearly stated. By grace (alone) through faith (alone), not of yourselves (you can't work to acheive it) it is a gift (you don't have to work for a gift, because a gift is well...a gift) not of works (there it is again, NOT of works) lest any man should boast (it's not man, that works his way into heaven, but totally 100% Jesus that did all the "work" upon the cross).
You can't add to what Jesus did on the cross. Jesus paid it all.
Of course we should do the Lord's will after we are saved. We should seek after Him daily, and strive to live for him, however that is not contingent on us going to heaven. A perfect example of this is the theif on the cross. Jesus said "Today, thou shalt be with me in paradise," he didn't have to do a thing besides call upon Jesus, no good deeds, no working towards it. Once again, yes, we absolutley should be growing in the Lord after we are saved, but us going to heaven is not based on what we do, other than our faith and trust in what Jesus did on the cross to pay for our sins to take us to heaven. |

Well your part of the way right. All those bible versus about getting saved also include a yield to Christ. A death of sin and a renewal of life. Good works always come with redemption. If you are serious about getting saved... Get a bible and find out what it means for yourself. Dont just trust what someone else tells you. There are a lot of unknowingly misleading psuedo Christians out there that dont even have a clue what the bible is really saying. To receive salvation you must acknowledge the Lordship of Christ, understand the grace bestowed Salvation He offers, and yield your life and desires to his will. Its no easy task. Its a lifetime struggle. But there are many blessings here on earth and eternal blessings beyond imagination.
Okay I really wasnt wanting to deal with the idea of dispensationalism today but here goes. No promise of salvation is ever extended to those who refuse to accede to Christ's lordship. Lordship salvation is the only kind of salvation. Yes Christ is the one who does all the work in salvation but he tells us to take upon ourselves His yoke. Do you know what a yoke is? Look it up. Jesus doesnt tell us to pray some kind of pre-fabricated superficial prayer and we are guarranteed Heaven as a reward. See 2 Corinthians 13:5... "Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you-unless indeed you fail the test?" How can anyone say that we dont have to do anything else after salvation. We dont earn salvation but once we are saved the Holy Spirit will work with in us and we will serve the Lord. Read the parables people! Good fruit= good trees, bad fruit= bad trees! If there is no spiritual fruit there is no salvation. God is not a wish granter, or a superstition. He is Lord and we are under Him. |
