They have 0 financial intelligence. They gone through banktrupty twice and foreclosure once. They are stupid when it comes to money. My mothers mother recently died and they collected nearly half a million dollars, thankfully they invested with two reputable financial advisors, they bought a house and refinanced for a great rate. But they just spend money like idiots. We just moved into a modest house, built in 2000 fully landscaped, they want to redo the landscaping, so they feel like shelling out over $7,000 for a new landscape. Our garbage disposal got clogged, rather then attempting to fix it they decided to call a plumber at $50/hour; I went under the sink and fixed it in 10 minutes, and then cancelled the plumber. We have a piano that we have been storing at a friends house for the past few years and my mom would like it for sentimental reasons, I said, I can move it for $50. No they insisted, we are having a piano mover to take care of it for $150, why? because they are insured.
