I believe religion teaches an immoral lesson to children: do actions of the word of God, and not reason. I hold myself accountable to reason alone, for each possible action can only be interpreted as right or wrong on an individual basis - not on an absolute moral scale. I do believe in absolute morality, but not to taken from a book or simply given to youth, but to be established on one's own through critical reasoning and a rational system of ethics.
That is not to say I do not believe in something greator than man. The universe is a mysterous place and it would be egotistic of me to pretend like I know anything about it's massive glory and potential. I would not however give labels to powerful forces of the universe like 'God', for that can be interpreted incorrectly by many people as an actual thinking,living being, like ourselves that created the entire universe? I do not think that is possible or likely. The moral messages of the Bible can teach alot though, as long as they aren't taken literally. Jesus Christ was not a real person... he is a mythological character like Osiris, Dionysius, and so on. |

This is a question that I have been dealing with for the past ten years or so. I believe in God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. But somehow, it is in the fellowship of many fellow Christians that my faith has failed. To many arguments of how I worship, and when, and if I am even on the right path, so I worship as I please, when I feel like it is needed, and walk my own path.
I try, snd sometimes fail at doing so, to be tolerant of other's view. I feel that is is important to see any side to any story before passing judgement. I have linked a source that I have found helpful in researching many different religious views.
Right now my views lean more towards agnostictism. |

I am not because a christian is controlled by a religion. I have studied religion and its origins for many, many years. Each one dates to a specific religious leader. Each one has changed thru the centuries to make the particular group more powerful or to have more control over its believers. I firmly believe in God, an all powerful life energy that is responsible for all living things. I believe that this supreme entity has sent us messengers from time to time to teach us how to love one another and live together in peace. Unfortunately, man worships the messenger and creates religions about their teachings instead of seeing the universal messages that were sent. |

I am not a Christian because I have tried it too many times, and found too many contradictions. For openers, there are a hundred different flavors of Christian, from the very intellectual to the rabid anti-intellectual; from the dedicated proselytizers to the hippy-like laid back, etc. So how should I know where I would fit in? Secondly, Christians talk their own language, about "born again," and various creeds and things, and tend to explain things with circular reasoning. Example: the pope is infallible. How do you know? He said so, and he's infallible!
But mostly I think it is because I feel no need of Christianity. I am content to follow my own path, moving closer to God in ways that make sense to me, and trusting to a Cosmic Fairness that says my good will and honest best efforts are really what matter. If there is any punishment, it will be to come back here and try again, perhaps even less equipped than I am now. If there is any reward, it will be to have a chance at being that tall, slim, beautiful, elegant, poised and intelligent woman that everyone knows is really a goddess! |

Because, historically, more evil, cruelty, ignorance, and perversion has been committed in the name of Christianity. To preach moral superiority and call that Christianity is an atrocity and an insult to all the good that has been destroyed and tainted in its name.
And because the entire belief system is so simplified and immature that I can't find a way to make it fit with the beautiful, infinite, multilayered, complex world that I experience every day.
You can't claim to have all the answers when you refuse to accept any questions that don't fit neatly into your little two-dimensional worldview. The world is so much more than you will ever comprehend and if you actually believe that the universe is as shallow as you claim... I pity you. |

I do not believe in god because there's no reason to suppose that god exists. If there were any evidence for the existence of a higher power it would have been in the papers.
Despite what you may have heard, extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. It is not up to me to prove god exists, it is up to other people to prove that he does.
Non existence of supernatural entities is the default position. I require evidence for the existence of Shiva, Zeus, Baal and God. Christians don't believe in Zeus, Shiza and Baal. I'm just more rigorous in my world view. |
