Telemarketing has been around from the time the first lines were strung and will continue to be successful until, well we don’t need to telecommunicate any further I guess.
The Direct Marketers Association 2005 reported that the most effective way for generating leads and new business was the telephone. In fact the truth is every day more and more business are looking towards the phone as a strategy towards improving their market share.
What better way other than to meet in person is there to speak with someone? And lets face it; tell me what calls we receive that are not an interruption. They all are, even the ones we expect, because we are always doing something else when the phone rings.
The trouble is that most business look at telemarketing as a production line, measured by the immediate results produce. It has in someway almost become robotic in form.
The phone rings, you pick up, then you hear the pause of death and our anxiety rises more when we here the person on the other end stutter our name, then asking you, how you are with no feelings it all. Then comes out the spew of what they call a script telling why it would be of benefit for you to do this or that. The same way we have condition ourselves to respond in a box store when young man, with a bright shirt on and big white smile and ask, “Is there anything I can help you with today?” We respond the same way “NO, I am not interested”.
Consumers have changed. My parents would prepare days in advance to make a purchase that was not classified to be in the need category. Longer if they needed credit to make their purchase. Today we don’t even need to leave our homes.
Business that are using or considering using telemarketing need to ask and understand why they would be interested in hearing from you in the first place. Instead of being concerned with Do Not Call Policies they need to focus on Please Call Me Possibilities.
A Few Quick Facts About my Telemarketing Experience.
In 1000’s of calls I have very seldom been hung up on. Never had someone blast an air horn into my ear, which I would consider to be extremely rude and possible damaging. Along with making as many as 300 calls in a day, of course all of them right at your suppertime.
One last fact that most don’t realize as consumers, that when we simple hang-up on telemarketers, feeling all powerful, well the pie is in your face, cause you just go back in at the top of the que to be called back tomorrow.

Because they don't take no for an answer. They have a list of things to day and if you say no, they still have a list of things to say. We find this rude and treat them like they are treating us. It must be, there must be someone still buying, otherwise the telemarketers would go away. |

Canadian and Americans hate telemarketers, they always phone during dinner hour and can't take NO for an answer. If we want to purchase something we know do not purchase over the phone. |

It's not as profitable as it used to be. Americans hate telemarkets because they don't want advertising constantly being shown to them. If Americans want car insurance, a newspaper subscription, or a new dentist, we'll go out looking for one, we don't need an idiot to phone us at home while we are eating dinner to tell us. |

They will not take no for an answer. They always call when it's inconvenient and they have no respect for the person on the other end of the line (you). They can now call your cell phone which costs you money to answer. I sure hope it is going to not be a profitable business option much longer. |

In a world where we are bombarded by advertizing 24/7, the last thing anyone wants is to personally confront and pressured into buying something when they are in the sactuary of their own home.
If a telemarketer could confront me while I'm out and in my daily routine, I wouldn't be more receptive, but I would be less hostile. |

Personally speaking, I hate the unsolicited intrusion into my personal time. If I want your product, I'll let you know. Don't hunt me down at home & think that I'm going to want to do business with you. And most telemarketers are extremely pushy. I usually have to say "No, thanks" several times before they end the call. Some will keep going with those annoying pre-written arguments until you hang up on them. |

Telemarketers are very pushy and call at the most inopportune times. They also call 4-7 times a day and it gets annoying after years..... lol |

because we hate people interupting our dinners 15 times every night - because we pay for our phone and don't feel that gives someone the right to intrude upon our lives to try and sell us stuff we don't want or did not request a sales pitch for. If I want to buy something, I'll go to the store or look on the internet and buy it. The last thing I want is someone calling me at home on my own time tryingt to sell me garbage that I don't want. And yes, before the do not call list came into being, I got as many as 15 calls per night. Now I get none.
Telemarketing is a dying business. It might not go away completely, but it is dying. |
