To be truly honest with you this custom was started in the U.S. Until a few years ago most european women didn't shave their legs or arm pits. For some reason this has become the norm. Hope this answered your question. If you look at the early movies in Holly Wood 1930's that when you see women that did this no fun proceedure. |

It is important to note that in many cultures, women do not shave legs and armpits. I am told that France is an example of this, but I think this is more true in Holland and Germany. Women were convinced in the USA that they must do this, and they have bought the line. Women think this hair is gross because men have convinced them it is. I guess Gilette and other companies were also interested in convincing women of this. |

Us girls began shaving our legs because society made it a norm for us to, and men not to. Men found it more attractive... and since men have more power in society, us woman usually follow these norms to please men. To most people in our society, its a folkway for a woman NOT to shave her legs. |
