That's a good question. I guess most people don't have good imaginations and see reading as work instead of fun. |

Some of us don't. I, personally, take a bit of time to read every day. Television just isn't the same as reading the words that someone took the time and stretched their imagination to write. |

Seems silly, doesn't it. Books are so much better than tv. |

It might seem boring or a waste of time. I personally enjoy reading. It helps to build vocabulary and imagination. |

because people have been trained (by years of watching advertising) to have short attention span and to be only impressed by strong stimuli
so now they can not concentrate for long enough to read a book
or if they read a book they need one where the main character dies eaten by piranha every other page (to keep their interest awake)
it is going even worse - even during tv they switch channels like krazy and don't get anything out of any show...
advertising messing out our brains my friend...
it is the price you pay for "free access to information" |

Reading a book requires more time than watching TV. With television, you know how much time you're going to devote to something- with a book you never know. If someone calls or comes over, you can keep the TV on in the background and carry on conversations with people. You can't do that with a book (not well, anyway). Reading also requires the use of imagination as well as literacy. How many people do you know with both these days? |

Reading requires comprehension, basically the ability to communicate with the author. Communication takes effort. With a movie you can just let it happen to you. You don't really have to pay attention. The music tells you how to feel and the exciting parts wake you up. With a book you have to be engaged until the end, but as long as you just sit there in front of the t.v. doing nothing you will get to the end of the storyline. |

because some people have no imagination and need visual stimulation more then what is provided in books, i also think to many parents rely on the TV as a babysitter , I'm guilty of that at times to, TV watching children in 20 years = TV watching adults |

A. Lazy - you don't have to use the energy to imagine if the actors and directors have done all the imagining for you.
B. Pretty colors, lights and sounds are mesmerizing. I once read that watching TV is intellectually comparable to watching a fireplace. The mental stimulation is the same.
C. Reading takes...well the ability to read. Many people these days find reading to be a chore instead of a pleasure.
D. Reading takes longer than TV, a cardinal sin in this day and time.
and
E. TV is pumped into your house and all day and night. A book you actually have to go get. |

I often ask my wife that. She is brilliant, but does not read for pleasure. Her answer to me is that she wants to do something that does not require her to use her brain. |

Moving the eyes and imagining while you read takes effort. Watching tv doesn't. Besides, the visual experience is fuller, more rewarding to the senses, including hearing and even sort of feeling the movie. |

well some people just like to read and other people don't and you cant make somebody like to read so i guess they just watch TV instead. |

Because you don't need to know any words for TV. |

it's easier, pick up a book, you actually have to use your brain to read & imagine what's going on. turn on the tv. no reading or imagination required, it's already provided |
|

meeee_3

it is easier. I have tried to read books and i get bored after a few pages. Sometimes I have to read a little, watch tv and go back to reading. Watching TV is much easier... |
