Why do people say "bless you" after a person sneezes?
The sixth century plagues in Italy brought the saying about. Pope Gregory started the custom of saying "God bless you!" to people who sneezed, and "God help me!" to those who were alone. It has nothing to do with the stoppage of the heart, and might not even be to prevent evil spirits from entering the body. It might have just been an earnest supplication for the aid of God to prevent someone else from dying in an age of ignorance about the causation of disease.

it's been suggested that when a Human sneezes, the heart stops for the duration of the sneeze (less then one second).
The "Bless You", is just that a blessing as your heart stopped and the blessing is to help make sure it beats again after the sneeze.
I don't remember where I learned this, but it was one of those questions from childhood that I had.
