Because they are parinod losers. They require being a pest in every aspect of life. They would not be complete without driving everyone nuts including themselves. |

I'm one of those jerks who still writes checks in stores. I don't carry a lot of cash with me and I don't like to run up the balance on my credit card. Except for big ticket items I prefer to pay my way as I go. This allows me to control my spending.
Also, I usually try to fill in the blanks on my checks (and check register) as I am waiting in line so that I don't hold people up too long. It takes about as much time to use a debit card as to write a check because you have to slide the card properly and put in a pin number.
So unless every minute is a life or death situation please try to relax, I'm writing as fast as I can. |

Some people just want to hold on to there money for just a moment longer :-) Also there are still the select few that like to go shopping before pay day with the hope that they will beat the check to the bank. |

I use a card but I'm sympatico with those who hold out against the speed of electronic money-transferring.
If I chose to use the checkbook I could write one and enter it in my check register as fast or nearly as when I use the card;
Prior planning, etc. There's too much frantic shopping, driving and living , in general, today.
I'm still holding-out against those 'Self Check-out' lines. They are job-killers. |

Not everyone has credit nor they do not want to get into the credit card mess and end up in debt. |

I still write checks and I'm not old. I don't trust the debit cards.. or my record keeping of all the recites.I don't trust anyone when it comes to my money. I also don't do online banking so that means I still write checks to pay bills. I Don't trust the safety of the internet. .Sorry that it pisses people off but thats the way it is... |

Simple, so they don't want to overdraw their account, record it no so they don't forget it later. Many people don't trust bank cards or credit cards, so they still choose to use checks. My advice to you is to just slow down and enjoy life, don't be in such a hurry that things like this bother you. |

Not everyone qualifies for a debit card.
Some people don't like the security risks involved with having a debit card. I worked at a Credit Union in the fraud department and after people had their card information compromised and had thousands in charges placed on them creating a mess that took quite a bit of effort to get fixed, many of them opted to simply not have a debit card anymore - exchanging convenience for security.
Checks aren't completely secure either and they are slow and on their way out for sure, but having card information that grants direct access to your bank account is rather troublesome after someone gets in.
And the people that had the information compromised weren't always people that were foolish enough to answer to an e-mail claiming that their account needed "confirmed"; it could be a shady Waiter/waitress at a restaurant or anything really. |

because some people have terrible credit, and banks will not issue a debit card or a credit card to people who are not deemed trustworthy with a debit card. It is easier to prosecute people who write bad checks than it is for debit cards, because they can be used like credit, and that means that the bank temporarily issues a line of credit to the user in order to process the transaction, and if it goes negative, the bank can only do so much because it was treated as credit, and unsecured debt.
So there you go. |
