Why do ppl smoke???

People who do not smoke have no business answering this question. They only have second hand knowledge of the activity. People who do smoke, on the other hand, may not know why they started or why they continue to smoke.
I smoke a pipe. At one time I smoked cigarettes too. I will agree that it can be a nasty habit. Not for all the social BS about ashes and tasting like an ashtray or second hand smoke beliefs. Smoking is bad because it usually involves a very powerful and addictive drug: nicotine.
No non-smoker has any conception as to what this means. Smokers, on the other hand, being addicts, are usually not ready to accept the consequences of their own habit.

because they wnat to be cool and once they start they get addicted and never quit

i started cause it was cool 15 yrs later i want to quit

actually this question was asked before...There are soooooooo many answers to that question and it's going to be hard to list them all I hope you don't mind the simplified answers.

First as children we see that it's something that adults do and we say "hey I want to be an adult" So thats one reason.

People in authority at the time (Adults) don't want us to so we as natural anarchists are draw to it like drinking... etc.

Advertising and media promotion, movies- Anything from Joe camel to James Dean- For some strange reason it defined cool. And by using and emulating we were cool as well.

(Trust me if the Nose pickers of America United pooled their resources and hired a top advertising firm to make nose picking cool, at the end of the Month there would be celebrity nose pickers, cool tools for nose picking, teens with extreme picking....)

Plus hey its a great portable hobby, think about it what other great international hobby is there? You get soooo many cool toys to play with, different matches, lighters, cases, brands, different ones from exotic countries. The list is endless.

Unfortunatelly it is the one hobby that most likely has no beneficial practical result unless you consider mass murder, suicide, pyromania, and the like beneficiall?

As a reformed smoker still fighting against temptation every damn day, I realise that the only reason I crave that smoke is to give in to the temptation, it feels good to want something that bad sometimes. It's that first guilty drag when you give in, that almost erotic tingle that passes throught our bodies, followed quickly by the total male response of damnnnn what the hell did I just do!

cuz their estupido non comprehendo!!!!!! datz y!!!!!! n anoder thang iz cuz of peir pressure... actually pressure in general... they think it helps but it doznt.. it juzt makz u feel worse, it also gives u cardiovascular diseases (plez dont smok if ur thinkin bout it!) :)

I cant answer for anyone but my self and its ignorance i have copd and i still smoke im stupid ill be the first to admit it i cant blame any one but my self so if you dont smoke be proud

it calms the nerves, it looks cool, it makes you feel a part of society, it curves the hunger, it is something to do with your hands if you don't have a computer...the list goes on and on

they smoke while at the bars and others smoke because they think it`s cool

It is peer pressure.

stress, peer pressure, wanting to be cool, and then they get hooked on it

because they are stressed out and don't know what to do (i would never ever smoke)
