Not all preps hate goths. My best friend is prep and I am goth, but we get along fine. Her friends hate me though. They say I am 2 depressing and they hate my style of clothes. I guess we r just 2 opposite peoples. |

It's been that way since the begining of time. The counter culture kids and the cool kids. Punks and Preps, Nerds and Jocks, it's always been there.
And you're not goth, and if you think you are, you missed the boat by 15 or so years. |

I'm assuming that you are a teenager (or very close to it) and some teenagers have difficulty dealing with people who are different, whether it be different races, sexual orientations or fashion sense. They probably don't *hate* you, they may just not know how to relate. As long as you have friends that you are comfortable with, I wouldn't worry about it. You DO have to be nice, but you do NOT have to be friends. Besides-- who you are now is not who any of you will be in five years. Hope this helped! |

Many of them are simply annoyed by "Goths" because they are the victims of a homoginized "counter-culture".
It's the whole "I'm going to be different, just like everybody else!" thing. |

Because you are the complete opposite on the outside of everything a prep stands for. They cannot get past the looks it sounds like. They fear the unknown and to combat that they turn it into hate or despisement. They do not know who you are inside. The dont understand what you stand for or why you dress the way you do. Goth's do not have thebest reputations at times (not stereotyping), and neither do preps so there is a clash. |

I think it is because "preps" see themselves as mainstream society. Goths threaten these people because they are different. (Just as in real life), for example: goths are to preps as indigent people are to wealthy people- an annoyance. They do not truly hate you, they just do not understand you. And often, That which is different from ourselves will often be misunderstood and disliked. In my opinion, it doesn't really matter if you are goth, prep,rich, poor, black, white, spanish, blue collar, white collar, etc., someone will always find a reason to pick on the most unpopular group. |
