Because people are desperate for work. They have families to support. They can't afford to be choosy about whom they work for. Companies like Wal-Mart take advantage of this situation and pay the lowest wages possible, cut hrs back as much as possible and refuse to pay health care and other benefits. |

I think it is due to the fact they are the company of last resort for people with few skills, education, probably compounded by poverty. Walmart preys on employees who take what they can get, ask few questions, have little knowledge of employee rights and/or the self confidence to demand their rights. They've been sued many times for refusing to allow their employees breaks and lunch times required by law. I boycott Wal-Mart and will continue until they treat their employees like human beings. |
