i have nothing wrong with polish people... but im sorry why do they put most of us english out of our jobs??? i mean i work at Domino's Pizza, they are bringing in three polish to every store across the UK.... the people that have just taken over our buisness have said that the English people have to answer the phones and clean the store.... the Asian people have to drive the deliveries to houses... well my manager is an Indian so what is going to happen to him??? Is he to be told go out and drive??? i personally think this is discrimination?? i also posted a question asking what do i about my new boss cutting my hours to 2 hours a week... things are just getting worse and worse... ive told them already no matter what they do to us i won't leave! What do i do??? |

Wow - if we substituted "Mexicans" for Poles in this question it would sound just like the US. Even the answer that proposes that Poles have a greater work ethic than Brits sounds like what some people say of Mexicans vs Americans. Imagine that...
Who are they complaining about in Germany, France, or Spain I wonder.
Here's the bottom line - it's not about ethnicity, race, or immigration status; we call this managerial economics. Employers will pay the least amount of money they possibly can for any task they need accomplished. That's business. If that means we hire immigrants from Antarctica for less than locals - then we hire the immigrants.
The issue is that you have equal marketable skill but you want higher pay for it. I can teach about anyone to make pizza - I can't teach just anyone to balance my books and ledgers. Therefor, I pay pizza bakers less than I pay accountants.
If you want to make more, you must aquire a marketable skill that everyone else doesn't have. It's really that simple. Why won't you leave? It seems to me that you're not taking advantage of your own skills. |

unfortunately there are sooo many brits claiming benefits in this country that i have no sympathy at all. there are plenty of jobs out there regardless of Poles or whoever else comes over. At least they are working and not scrounging off the state.
i guess you really need to speak to your boss and express your concerns about the hours cut. or of course look for another job. good luck! |

Hi, before i start i have nothing against Polish people, but i know of a work place near me that only now employs Polish, the reason being they are paid the minimum wage, BUT the employer pays £2.50 and the government subsidises the rest, so perhaps there's your answer. If the government are subsidising foreign workers then employers will only pay what they have to, I think the new law is right that people have to pass a points test to work in this country, and only if beyond a reasonable doubt with proof that they cannot employ a British National can they then employ someone from EU, I think it's Italy that have said no to foreign workers and stood up to the EU about it and they are right. Did you see the programme on TV about the Polish woman that tried to sue for unfair dismissal, she was so unreliable in her job's and then she threw her teddy in the corner and went back to Poland, she soon came back to Britain though. |

Ahh, the European Union. At least they're legal. Here in the US we are overrun with illegal immigrants vying for entry level jobs.
It sounds to me like there's some discrimination going on, do you blokes have a minimum wage law and equal opportunity laws? They should be doing the same thing for the same wage that you get paid. Obviously, they don't want someone with a limited vocabulary taking phone orders or waiting on customers, but the rest of it sounds like bull to me. Report them to the authorities. |

You are too late: what you and everyone else should have done years and years ago (when people like me were being ignored or told we were just moaners) is to stand up to the government and prevent them bringing in more people into the 4th most (over)populated country in the world (per square mile). Now we have millions and millions of arabs, indians, pakistanis, asians and now polish from what you say, each bringing over their families and having babies by the dozen, taking up the housing, effectively killing the social services system, and taking (as you know) the jobs. Every other country I have looked into has a policy to prevent exactly this, but not the UK, because every time someone does stand up to prevent it we hear "racist". Someone will post and say I am, you wait and see... You are far, far, far, far too late my friend.
To everyone that says everyone else but them is scrounging off the state and therefore it's their fault:
1. 50 million jobs (say).
2. 60 million people (say).
3. 1 into 2 does not go.
It's not always someone else's fault. Morons! (And yes these figures are as near as dammit to the situation in this country - what do you expect). Also, you people are always saying "stop scrounging off the dole", but every one of you is claiming hundreds (if not thousands) a year in child benefits! Why should I pay for your brats out of my earnings? Especially as they will grow up and take my job!!!! |

Besides, maybe you should consider getting a better job and that requires qualifications.
Many immigrants are willing to work longer hours for less money. So, instead of griping, start thinking about how to improve your own life: study, work on whatever skills are more marketable, etc. |

Its rather simple - polish people will do jobs that workshy brits wont - picking strawberries, washing dishes etc
Also, coming from a place which regularly does this, they are much easier to deal with, u can pay them less and they are NEVER off or late |

It is discrimination splitting jobs according to race, it won't be allowed, report them.
Yeah the poles are taking a lot of the minimum wage jobs because they really will work for the minimum, it's just the way it is in the uk at the moment, blame the MEPs |

because it is probably cheaper to pay them. The wages in poland are so bad that they get more workign here. Sometimes the people who are on dole and can't get a job can't do so because they are people from other countries getting the jobs |
