Getting a job is about selling YOU... which isn't easy.
While these other answers are harsh, they are right that EVERYTHING COMMUNICATES... you might have a lot to offer, but you're being judged on a very small window of interaction... so sell the key things that make you better then the competion... are you a harder worker? loyal employee? good at a particular skill? make sure it's obvious to someone within the first moments of looking at a resume and/or meeting you!
