Not sure, but here in the Netherlands taxes on cars that drive on diesel are higher than on cars that drive on petrol. So here at least driving diesel only makes sense when driving a lot. |

more business users utilise derv mor ethan petrol these days, and bear in mind, diesel cars are a damn sight more economical than petrol.

the government has put so much tax on it for their own coffers.
deisel was the alternative to petrol as it could be produced cheaper but now the government has put so much tax on it that it is more expensive.
we are one of the highest taxed countrys in the world on verualy every product there is and also income tax |

There is more tax on diesel to encourage people to buy unleaded. But I dont think there is a great difference. |

Tax, somthing like 80% of fuel prices are tax.
The actual cost of producing diesel varies according to supply and demand, the less people who use diesel the cheaper it is because a certain amount of diesel is a natural by-product of oil refining, like LPG, but if the demand for diesel is higher then a greater proportion of the crude oil has to be used to make diesel and it actually becomes more expensive to refine than petrol, hope that makes sense. |

good point though the other day walking along the canel I walked past a narrow boat that had a sign up saying diesel for 51p a litre was tempted to buy a diesel car and walk along the canl with a 20litre jerry can every time I need it. |
