Monies collected during WW1 and WW2 were in Swiss account (rumour has it that even Hitler had an account there). Only now, after some controversy, they are opening it to some people, apparently some of which belongs to those unfortunate Jews who died in holocaust. Their heir can claim the money after providing solid proof of relationship. This is the only exception that I know of because of the circumstances. |

They're not governed under the same international laws, so if the US government, or another country, was trying to find information on a certain individual or organization the Swiss government, or an individual bank, has the right to not disclose that information. Both the clients money and identity is therefore protected and people can get away with legitimate business ventures...but also the not so legitimate ones. |

My perception is that the account and its details are really protected as long as the account holder is an ordinary man who is not a threat to the US Government or Swiss Government. The monent he becomes a threat in any way, his account would be made appreared as protected but in reality the transaction details and other details will be received by the party interested. Otherwise, how come the CIA and FBI survive. |

the swiss banks beleive in privacy,no one can actually trace down the owner of an account holder,not even the banking staff who work there.also,swiss banks have lockers where you can store anything,guns,stolen cash/art,dead bodies,anything ;-),and yet no one can gain access to it except the account holder.COMPLETE PRIVACY.now this is waht i call banking, all swiss made things are classic |

because of the laws protecting them. they are very secure to the point that there is no swiss police warrent that can give them the right to search a swiss bank account. so if u commited a crime and hid all the evidence in there the police coulnt ever get it |

They are a convenient way to hide money. Taxes in some countries (USA, UK, etc) are high and people don't like to give their cash to the government. If you hide it in a Swiss bank account no one will no about it. The Swiss are very strict and will NOT divulge the owners of the account. They wouldn't even tell Osama bin Laden's account number, so you could be "notorious" and still be protected by the bank. |

The only reason is coz, The Swiss Laws Prohibit Banks from giving out any kind of information about their customer.Even to law enforcement agencies!!! Its a very secure place to keep
anything.Privacy guaranteed, No matter what!!! |
