because sometimes you want an excuse to be able to ruin things |

Cost
the additional expense of making items waterproof would need to be passed along to the consumer. Not everybody needs that additional feature,
The other side of it would be that the manufacturers want you to ruin your electronic item, so that you have to buy another. :-) |

Because it would cost more to produce the waterproof technology and therefore cost us more to buy it. Not many people would want to pay extra for things that would be alright for them to use if they just took care of it. Also, if our technology was waterproof, manufactors wouldn't have anything to fix because no one would have any water damage to their things and etc. |

The main reason is we live in a "replace" society. All goods that we "consume" or use up. or break, or need improving, will continue to be made and sold.
That is the whole basis of manufacturing. |

I am an electronics engineer and we do not do that because, as others have pointed out, making stuff waterproof makes them cost more. As well they are likely to be heavier and the sealing makes them impossible to fix.
Pressures to keep cost as low as possible in the market place means that we only make waterproof the things where people will pay a premium price.
Because I assume when you see two more or less equal things side by side, you tend to buy the cheaper one. |

Because they don't need to be.
Just because we can do something does not make it a sensible or profitable thing to do. |

how would they make any moeny.
you want a super man product that never breaks when you goof up, how would any business make money
they purposely make cheap products so we have to buy new ones...think about it
cars are plastic now...cell phones are paper thin...its common business sense. No one has ethics anymore. |

Just wondering
|
They have waterproof cameras. I don't mean waterproof cases either. The actual camera can go underwater. Otherwise you can just get an air tight case for it. |
|

what?
|
why should they be? all sealing a cell phone does is make it impossible to service. |

It costs too much, and it isn't necessary. People are supposed to be responsible enough to keep things out of water. It isn't that difficult. We don't need to swim with our ipods. |
