cos 99p is a psycological price. It looks cheaper than a £1 which youll get change from. |

Then every thing would be 98p |

this is possibly the best question I've heard for a long time! it could only come from a child. |

99p is a price they use to make products seem cheaper - i.e. £1.99 sounds cheaper than £2 although it is only cheaper by one penny.
Just think though - I am quite sad and save up all my coppers, and then I take them to the machine at the supermarket and can have up to £50 saved on some visits. I would not have this money to treat myself if I did not have all these extra pennies to save!!! |

Tell him it's for the same reason there is not a 98, 88, 67, 34, 65 or 11p coin. If he asks what is that reason? Send him to bed. |

I don't know, why not??? There should be, i am sick of pennys, you cant buy nothing with a panny, and if you attempt to buy summat with all your pennys in your purse at the checkout ( Say a can of pepsi 50p) Then you get alot of 'tut' 'sighs' etc, like you are really wrong for spending your pennys, WHAT ARE WE MEANT TO DO WITH THEM!!
Even if you save them and try and change them at the bank, they moan. They should just charge 10p, 20p, 50p or £1, not pennys!
Your son is obviously a bright little boy |

Same reason there is not a 71p coin , or maybe 52p coin , |

because it wouldn't recirculate. you wouldn't get it back in change so it would be a waste of currency |

there is no 99p coin so ensure cashiers don't pocket money when you go to checkout. if you hand over £10 for item costing £9.99 the cashier has to ring thru till and open it to get your change. |

Why would there be, if we have a £1 coin, a 99p one would be a waste of space in my pocket as its only 1p fom £1
We work on the decimal system. with some added common sense.
So we get 1p 2p 5p and 10p
20p, 50p, £1 and £2
Very easy to add up,and manage.
It would be more difficult for some people to add together handfulls of 99p coin, easier with £1 coins. |
