Wierd letter and check in the mail ? Should I deposit their check ?
I got this letter in the mail yesterday from a company called MonsterMarket Place. It says they're a job placement firm, and they have a job opening at Jiangsu Incorporated. The job position is basically to process payment checks on behalf of the company , deposit the check, and once it's cleared send the money to Winnepeg Canada via Moneygram wire transfer. I get to keep a commission of 15%.
They even included a very real looking paycheck for $4,850 in my name. The check even has a watermark and looks authentic.
Should I deposit this check ??

I got the exact same letter yesterday. Monstermarket Place, Jiangsu, the whole ball of wax. On Monday I am going to contact the company that supposedly issued the check and drop the letter & check off with the police. I don't know if they will be able to do anything about it, but I'm not falling for this scam. I initially thought it to be a money laundering scheme, but after hearing the other replies to your question I see it is mail fraud and outright theft.

The company that supposedly issued the check for $4850 is michael lewis company. The company is real and the address is even accurate. But I am sure this company has no idea a bogus check is being passed in their name. I will inform them on Monday and inform the police. I would suggest you do something similar.

This is a very popular scam. The check is fake here is how it works....You deposit the check and wire them the money less the 15%. A few weeks go by and their check bounces leaving you will a $4000 bill from the bank. I can't believe people are still falling for this. Maybe I should open a biz! LOL

No. The check will appear to clear, then later will be returned and your account debited.

Classic scam

no ya dumbass! never send money somewere. that is a scam. it scam. take it to police, while there ask them to do it.

once again NO NO NO NO NO NO NO

No the check is fake. The bank will 'clear' the check within a few days, and you will withdraw and send the money. Within a week or so, the bank will ifnd out the check is a fake, and YOU will have to repay the money to the bank.

This is an increasingly common scam - try searching the web for more information on fake check scams.

This is a very very common scam right now...any time you recieve unsolicited funds and are asked to wire money back it is a scam...

It will take 21 days for the check to clear, but the bank can't hold it leagally for that long, you will wire the money (which you can't get back once it is sent) and the check will bounce and you will be out $4122.50 plus any fees your bank charges you...

These checks sometimes look so real bank tellers cannot tell them from fake ones...they use stolen account information so even if you were to call the bank they might say that is an open active account with their bank (because they can't verify funds or who the account belongs to accourding to privacy laws this makes you believe the check to be good).

Please do not fall for such an obvious scam!

?
that is on you but here is the catch you cash it you send their money and by the time it comes back the money is gone plus you have a standing bounce for a stop pay check or a forged check they can get your belongings over it plus any bank funds even take what you have in real property so best thing to do is not send the us of a;s funds out and to trash the check you call you check it looks legal but the bottom line is the banks will get your belongings in the end in other words it is a scam and the banks are aware of it.

Hello, I would not trust it because I recv'd a check today and I made several phone calls and found out it was a fraudlent check. people trying to get the money and get you in trouble. The check looks real but most likely isnt. On the top of the check it probably has two different names and addresses. If I were you get on the internet and do some research, make phone calls ect..... just so you dont get in trouble. Goodluck and Happy Holidays

ya gotta be kiddin'! NO, NO AND NO!!! put the check in the shredder and never think about it again. it's a rip off and a scam waiting to happen.

dont!!!

it a phishing scam. they might ask you for more than you would expect to receive and/or its a money laundering scheme.

Talk to your local bank about this stuff. Banks and credit unions are normally really savvy about that stuff. The saying "If it seems to be to good to be true, it probably isn't." applys big time here.
