Ive applied for a basic bank account with halifax, not a current account, a basic account with no overdraft or credit card, only a cashpoint card. Even though Im not applying for any form of credit will I be credit checked? can creditors find out where i am because I applied for a account? I got debts from a prev partner and am suffering because of this. |

The bank will carry out a basic credit check to see you are not a convicted fraudster or associated with money laundering,all they want to know is that the details you have supplied them with are correct with the credit reference agency,Experian is the one they will probably go with,It will contain all the information about you that has been put on by other companies like banks,water rates etc and will give you a score of between 0 and 1,000, the higher the figure the better the credit scoring.You can apply to look at your credit rating and info about you by applying online,just click experian and follow the links,it will cost you about £5/month to keep up to date,you can also have certain details changed or updated free.
Creditors will not be able to find out where you are just because of a credit check,the reference agency will record that the bank have done a check on you but that is all.no other info will appear other than the search has been done.Creditors can only go by what info is on the record,addresses etc that are current.so if you have moved recently the creditors wont know this unless your details are updated by either you or the bank when you get the account

Yes they can & sometimes will do a credit check.
Because you have only applied for a basic account they will not bother you it is only if you have opened an account with anyone you debts to as they have a right by law to take all of your money out of your bank.
Creditors can find out were you live off the electrol roll. Thats how they will track you down, they will just do a search with experian to find out how much you owe etc & that will also tell them if you have been trying to apply for any more credit, if you have then any creditors that you have made a deal about payments with will void your contract because of this.
Sorry you got debts of your X but yes they can still find you. |

When an account is opened, part of the documentation you sign includes an authorization for the bank to check your credit.
They usually run a background check to determine whether they will have to hold funds on checks you deposit, etc. They also use this information for marketing purposes so they can offer you loans, lines of credit, Visa/MasterCard etc. |

Halifax are the worst, they will check eveything and even though you dont want an overdraft and stuff they may still refuse you an account.
You have absolutely no way of running away from the debts, unless of course you leave Britain for a non-common wealth country.
My gf has debts from her previous partner, just like her you are going to have bite the bullet and start paying it off.
The only alternative is to file for bankruptcy, but that should be an absolute last resort as the banks take control of your finances and hand out money from your wages for you to live on and the rest they pay your debts with. |

You will be credit checked, even for a basic account. However, creditors will not be able to track you down from this. The only way would be if they have any affiliation with Halifax. Is this the case? |
