Will you pay more than something is worth (monetarily) just because you want it?

Additional Details
Most things have a manufacturers suggested retail price. IE: Monetary value. :) Try not to over-analyze...it just complicates things. :)

I'm the kind of person that NEEDS to have the latest gadget in the market. If I can get it before it's released to the general public I will even pay extra (over MSRP).

By the time prices have come lower and everyone has the same (for example) cell phone I'm already trying to get a new one.

Hmmm... I guess I should seek professional help, huh? Could you recommend any BRAND NEW therapists?! It doesn't matter the price! LOL!

No, I don't. Well not usually. Actually sometimes.

meanie
yep.. my MP3 player.. if I had waited a few months the price would have dropped but then I would have bought a cd player and cd's in the meantime so it evened out.

I have paid more than things were worth in the past. But in the end isn't the worth of something based entirely on how much someone is willing to pay for it?

Yes................!!! With guilt......but 2 months later I will be glad to own it - as long as my bank account is not in the red.

Yes. Especially when that particular thing is in auction and there are a lot of bidders.

Basing on capitalistic theories, what is worth monetarily is what you're ready to pay for it. Occidental culture (supermarket, shops, etc) makes it in global terms (law of offer and demand), in a way that one may disagree with the price fixed by the globality (in other cultures, arguing individualy while fixing the price in a market is quite normal).

With your question, you probably meant "Will you pay more than the price fixed by the market just because you want it?". In that case, I would answer "yes" without any doubt... for the reason I mentioned above: to me, what's worth a product depends on how much I want it, and as individual that can be different than the price fixed by the market. Logic.

Last thing: still important to repeat that other theories than the capitalistic one exist.

Sorry if I over-analysed and complicated things!!

Absolutely.

If I want something I go and get it.

The question is do we lower our standards and get something that does the same if the price goes to high? again that would be no.

moke040
No I won't but many silly people do so.
