"Dune" by Frank Herbert. This is one of the critically acclaimed best selling science fiction books where Frank creates a vivid and well planned universe. Dune the first book of his series is rich with political battle and strong characters. The movie does absolutely no justice to the book. Dune is set about 20,000 years into the future and the plot, background and approach is a testament to the fact that the author spent 6 years researching and preparing before he wrote "Dune". If you haven't read it and can stand sci-fi, then it is a must read!
