Matt F 		Would a big retailer like Morrison's be happy to employ me for a month or so when I have no previous training?
This summer I plan to travel abroad for a while before going back to uni, but need to get some money, and Morrisons's is near me. Would there be any chance of them employing me for only a short space of time, giving I could work for them in other holidays, but only ever for short periods? I've no retail experience, but have good A levels, GCSEs, etc.. Thanks in advance...

They would be reluctant for just a month. Some supermarkets employ students over the holiday but a month would be too short. You could lie to them?!! Or better still, why not try getting short-term work with a temp agency, either in office warehouse or catering work? Make sure to sign up early though, or the other students will get the jobs first! Hx

Yes, Morrisons and Marks and Spencers etc normally are willing to take students doing work experience for a short period of time. If you have good A-Levels/GCSEs etc and explain that you would like experience with big retailers they will be happy to offer you a job.

I would have thought so, you don't need that much training to work in a supermarket and if you were to be a holiday worker then it would also help them in busy periods such as Christmas etc when the store gets busier. When I worked at ASDA there was a guy there that went away to uni but whenever he came back he worked back at the store.

they always want part time workers ,and usualy are willing to employ students,and work out hours to suit you and your college commitments.

They will train you on the job. Throw a CV together and nip along to the HR manager. Don't post it. Dress smart casual and make a personal call.

supermarkets are usually delighted to employ people like you - we have a lot of uni students in a similar position working in our sainsburys.

they provide temp cover during times when others want to go on their hols.

the only way you'll know for sure is to ask them - the worst they can say is "no"!
