Would gas go down if people ruffed it this winter?
I mean instead of normal heating use their fireplace more often.

If a substantial portion of the population did, the cost of gas might go down, yes. If you have gas heating, and you choose to chop wood and burn it instead of using your regular heating, then obviously yes as you won't pay for the gas you don't use. But really, how many people do you think are going to use firewood if they don't have to yet? People will pay for the comfort.

Mickey Mouse Spears
Naturally, the price of gas would go down if the demand went down.

With the economy the way it is, and the supply and demand for our country's oil staying steady, I'd have to say I doubt it. People have overall been cutting back for the last 4-5 years and prices have still increased. It's just the times.

katgonz
maybe... i hope so! that is a good plan

Gary R
You wouldn't get enough people to do this though, that's the problem

It might make it worse especially if the smaller gas companies go bust, meaning fewer companies, less competition, higher prices because people have no choice? Just a thought....

Maybe next year. Utilities buy on contract in advance. The fireplaces would greatly add to emmissions as they are not as effecient as gas. Wood costs more unless you don't value your time and can strip the earth for free.

Judy1
The price of just about anything goes down if demand lessens.

I don't know that using your fireplace for heat is exactly "roughing it". And if you have a gas fireplace, you'd probably use more gas trying to heat your living area that way than you would turning up the furnace.

bbladybugs
Probably not

i dont normally bark in the winter......however, using the fireplace will not keep the pipes from freezing. so, probably not.

Tommy M

Yes and gasoline would too if we drove slower such as 55 instead of 70 on the Interstates.

Andy B
No. We don't use gasoline to heat our homes.

If you want gas prices down, drill everywhere we have gas and oil at home, build nuclear power plants, use clean coal technology, and develop oil shale. Economics 101 increase supply prices drop. Decreasing demand as you suggest is not a bad idea we need to do both.

I'm in a resolution rush
this winter I'm going green wooohoooo!!!!!!
