Social security payments are based on how much is paid into the fund to begin with. My husband and I both received SS and we drew off our own history. If a spouse draws off one or the others work history, the one with the highest amount will get the most and the spouse gets half of that amount. So it depends on the situation of who worked, how long they worked, and how much they made while working.
