and you withdraw some money say $100.00. Bank teller gives you back 5 $20.00 bills. You go to the store with your money and purchase something say fo $25.00. You give the cashier the money,she swipes the bills with the counterfiet pen and bango,
the bills are fake.
Now how do you prove to the bank that the money you had just withdrawn from them was fake and how would you prove that you had no idea the bills were worthless to the cops. |

You can't. You would have to prove it to the bank, which of course you can't once you leave the bank.
The only positive that can come from it is that you leave the store and go to the police and report that the bank provided you with counterfeit bills. The bank will be able to look on the tapes and see who it was that deposited the bills in the first place and maybe pin it on that person and give you replacement money. If they have no one to pin it on you are on the hook for the money.
When I worked in a store in the mall the bank would get hit with counterfeit bills all day long and "assign" the bills to the various stores night drop bags... it used to get my managers mad but there was nothing we could do.
Banks won't knowingly accept counterfeit bills, but they won't take the loss for them either. |

You probably can't. Most banks are pretty unsympathetic in this case. You have no way to prove that the money you tried to pay with is the same money you withdrew - they certainly don't record the serial numbers of every outgoing $20. |

Just tell the cops where you got the bills and once they search your house and don't find anything then they will go to the bank and investigate from there. Counterfeit money gets passed aroung it is highly likely that an innocent person will end up with it and unless they find that you made it or are in with some people who did make it then you should be fine. Say only as little as you need to say just tell them where you got it and then request a lawyer don't answer anymore questions until your lawyer is there. |

I worked for the bank for many years...
unless that teller was new,she knew what she was doing...
and even new I think she knew...
there's a saying among tellers...
"WHEN IN DOUBT,HAND IT OUT..."
I'm sorry,the correct procedure is if she takes a counterfeit,she should
1.catch it
2.act like she's going to go get something and call the manager
3.NOT RETURN THE BILL,it's the law...
4.the customer may be innocent also,so we never accused...
the customer & manager must fill out a form...at the end of the year,the customer gets a tax write off

which means a loss for her,possibly a write up...so she handed it out...she balances,and no one knows...

Whenever I pay for something with a £20 pound note (UK) and the shopkeeper checks it with his pen or machine then gives me a £5 or a £10 note change, I always stand at the counter and hold it up to the light, several times, holding the entire queue up, then loudly say 'I believe this note to be fake, can you check it in your machine please before I accept it'. Usually the queue of people start clapping...................... |

I'd just try to use them ELSEWHERE - the bank is never gonna believe THEY gave you fake money. Don't worry somebody will take it of your hands |

the bank has a withdrawal slip from when you withdrew the money which you should have gotten a copy of along with a receipt. and that's what you use to prove to the police that it was the bank that gave it to you |
