I think this is the words and deeds for an organization. Strategic planning probably should be done years before the business of an organization get starts. Why? It is a competitive society. Every one want to get you. 1) Resources. What kind of budget you need to operate your organization. Where is the money and where is the human resources? 2) Set the aims and goals of the organization. How and when to reach the goals. 3) Vision and strategic planning of the organization. How our organization to compete with the similar ones in this world. How big our organization can grow in the future.
I think the best is to read a book of Strategy Planning for your organization. |

Strategic Planning in an organisation is prerequisite and an integer part of an organisation. The success milestone of any organisation depends largely on his focus and attention on strategics planning as to make maximum utilization of all available resources both human and materials alike.
Stragetics planning in fact is suppose to be continous process of organistion, its gives room for daily and periodic appraisal of events and activities especially in a developing or growing organisation. In the case of a larger organisation, strategic planning process is done in interval of time which can be arranged within and during management meetings and is always focus on a targetted goals within a stipulated period of time and with reference to the result obtained during previous work appraisal and evaluation as to make necessary provision for any improvement and adjustment as the case may be.
Note that when stragetic palnning is poorly done, the organisation is heading toward his doom because the planning process focuses on all future events and a set target. should in case there is no good management with sound interllectual capability to handle such a sensitive task, it is advisable a professional consultant be contacted to handle the process and he should be duly informed of all set goals and target of the organisation in the area concerned such as financial year budget, marketting plans, logistics planning, man-power development planning, etc. |

The interval Strategic Planning should be performed should be chosen relevant to the organizations natural cycles. Typically, yearly or biannually. An organization might have 3 5 and/or ten year strategic plans, and those plans visited on the interval for progress, relevance and continued conformance to the organizations vision and mission. Participants should include top leadership and representation from the organizations stakeholders - for example customers, key contractors, market experts, community representatives. |

There are many type of Strategic Planning, for operation, marketing, manufacturing, logistics etc. Each and every one of this have some differences in their contents.
You should hire a consultant to do this if nobody in your organization know how to do it in detail. But to answer your question, it is done after the goal setting is completed. It is also done to answer "certain circumstances" that could affect the organization's operations, financial stability, etc.
And example is: If your products were rejected by your client, a strategic planning is done in order to address the problem and save the company from losing money. |
