$25 billion auto industry bailout?
Why not do this? Have the government offer a discount of $5,000 to anyone who purchases a new American made car. At that discount they can sell 5 millions cars (5 million cars X $5,000 = $25 billion). The automakers must make at least $3,000 net profit on each car so they would be pulling in more than $15 billion in net profit. It will also allow them to keep people working, as someone will need to build these 5 million cars. Plus they will need to sell those 5 million cars so that would keep people in the dealerships working as well. On top of that, the insurance companies make more money, the mechanics that will eventually repair these American cars will make more money… and the government will make money BACK on taxes and registration, etc.

Don’t just hand over $25 billion to Corporate CEO’s who OBVIOUSLY don’t know how to run a car business!!! Put the money back in the pockets of the American people instead!

After the jury acquitted a man charged with murder I heard a Texas District Attorney say, "The jury decided the victim needed killing".

I say, "Some businesses need to go bankrupt". I am opposed to any and all bailouts of any company or person who screwed up. If CEOs can't run a business competitively or if a person can't read and understand a contract there is no reason why I should bail them out.

A specific comment about the car business. GM spends an average of about $75 an hour to keep an employee. Toyota spends about $45 an hour. This is caused by union greed and management's deferring union demands by promising future performance. Now the chickens have come home to roost. All those promises are coming do. Sell the company and do the best job possible of honoring those commitments.

Then walk away.

Either way, it has to be paid by tax payer's money, which has to be printed (FAST) by federal reserve. Uncle Sam has been in heavy debt already and this nation is at its edge of bankcruptcy. We should wake up to realize our government and its people have already spent tons of moeny they never had to begin with (i.e. Uncle Sam's 12 trillion dollar national debt, every American's $10000 credit card debt, mortgage, car loans, student loans, equity loans, ....). We are enjoying the fruits that we have planted past decades. This is the beginning of payback time.

They would just apply it to 5,000,000 cars they are going to produce anyway. Even in a bad recession they will make and sell 5,000,000 cars without a bailout. Maybe let the $5,000 apply only to extremely fuel efficient economical cars. They don't make many of those, and such rebate may force them to make more.

Let them all go under they are the ones who did this to themselves but still pay the ceo a huge salary and a even bigger bonuses every year for what did they do to deserve this. I heard they say they need this to save jobs but wouldn't it save jobs if they got rid of the bonuses and use that money that would have been uses for the bonuses and use it to save jobs

It really doesn't matter what company is going to the Government trying to get a bailout, they need to have a complete and detailed reports of how they plan to reduced their spending outside of reducing the number of workers only Each and every corporation that has asked the Government for money so far hasn't done anything to help the American people. Each and everyone I've read about so far has not shown any results for the American people by what they have received.
It's to bad the alot of people are on the loosing side, but we have alot more corporation competing for the market than what we need. Loans, Banking, Credit Cards are a good example of where alot of the problems started and it is the biggest factor today.
In the case of every Corporate CEO, as well as those leaving with big pay off, reduce that amount by no less than 25% of the total package they are getting. Reduce all expenses that have nothing to do with keeping the Corporation in tack.
I'm not going to write a book, but the elected people need to find a better way to resolve the problems of the people and not the corporations lining up at the door in Washington for a hand outs.
We are having problems because the working people are being reduced in numbers and our government is pumping money into special interest corporations for the Government's needs and not that of the American people.
