Do you have some wrapping paper from last year that is still nice? Offer to wrap the gift and put a fancy bow on it.

The boss should be given you a present for christmas. He is making lots of money from your hard work. You dont owe him anything.
Dont bow your head to authority. You are doing enough for your boss with the extra work you are puttin in around xmas time.
Your co-worker may have a self serving agenda for lickin up to the boss |

Tell'em you'll go buy the present or wrap it or something so that you can help out in some way. They'll understand - at least I hop they understand. I used to work at a place where we bought our boss presents about every quarter - birthday, christmas, boss' day, etc. It gets really old. |

To be honest I dont believe in giving a boss gifts. I was a supervisor and did not would not accept any gift. I did give gifts to the people who worked with me for a job well done. The easiest way is to say that you dont have the money. You are not obligated to anything at work. I have many of times said no and will continue to do so. I do say thank you or you can give your own gift and tell the person you are doing so. Cookies or any baked good is always appreciated as he can share it with the crew so it is a win win all the way around. |

Just be honeset and tell them you can't afford it. We get our boss a present every year and there are people who can't afford to give money and we understand |

Just be honest --- you are NOT alone. We can't afford anything this year and they've asked me this at work too and I can barely get my grandchildren anything (thank goodness they are really little and won't know).....but times are hard right now. |

Honesty is going to be the best policy here. If anything, try to pick up the xmas card. It is funny that people buy the boss a present, but they are the ones that make the most money. Such is life.

Tell them you can't afford it but you appreciate the offer. |

Just tell them you can't at this time and bake some cookies. |

Don't contribute to the present, but I recommend that you scrounge around and give whatever you can to a charity of your choice. Even giving $1.00 from your heart to those more needy than you, will send out some good vibes for the almighty to hear. |

Say " No thanks"
you aren't obligated to give your boss anything. it's actually bad workplace etiquette |

Typically the amount pitched in is like 5-10 bucks maximum. Anyone can afford that. Now, do you want to stick out like a sore thumb??? |
