A new aldi supermarket has opened in my town, what do you think of aldis?

Despite the aura of chavs, DSS, etc., that hangs over the reputations of both Aldi and Lidl, the fact of the matter is that the cheeses and packed meats that they sell are not only cheap, but outstandingly good quality. These products are often made in Germany or Scandinavia and are just beautiful in quality and flavour.

Lidl and Aldi are in direct competition with each other and always open a store wherever the other one does. They are virtually the same and I will refer to them as Lidl/Aldi.

A packet of Feta cheese that costs £1.99 in Tesco is just 0.99p in Lidl/Aldi and tastes better. A glass bottle of squeezed orange juice costs 0.49p and tastes wonderful and would cost at least £1.39 in Tesco. That's a £1.90 saving on just TWO items!

Tesco, Asda, etc are actually very expensive but pretend not to be. They have vast ranges and choice but charge high prices, while Lidl/Aldi only have one or sometimes two of each type of product and have very few staff. The staff have to stack shelves and run around doing the till and then running off to do something else, but they are paid more than anywhere else.

This way, Lidl/Aldi keep costs to an absolute minimum and keep prices very, very low.

If you don't believe me, go to Lidl or Aldi when it's quiet and have a look round. Buy the things that you normally eat and see what they charge you. I promise you that you will be amazed. You will wonder if there has been some mistake.

Take carrier bags with you or pay 2p each for them. More cost cutting!

Don't listen to rumour - go there yourself and you'll see that there's a lot more to those shops than you'd think.

Aldi is good to save money. You have to compare the price of the products when u´ll see many products are cheaper.
I´m from Germany and Aldi is here very famous and sometimes they even sell Computers which are very good quality. You have to get up early and queue or u don´t get one.

taxed till i die,
I think they are very good value for money,Fruit and veg,Good but you need to go early.

I don't shop that much but my mother in law is crazy about their prices. They do have great prices. You will enjoy it.

Good for cheap gadgets.
I don't shop there for anything else.

If I'm short for milk and I'm not going shopping I'll buy it from Aldi as they beat Co-Op (which is right by it) easily as the milk is virtually half the price.

We got one a number of years ago. We love the low prices of "staples."

If you are buying rice, beans, mushroom soup... etc., etc. what the heck difference is there to name brands? Just because Uncle Ben puts rice in a box with his name on it it's still rice isn't it?

I find their fresh vegetables and fruit aren't the greatest. If you use them the day you buy them they are probably okay, but they don't keep well.

Their chips and snacks are good. Frozen foods have been pretty good too. I watch some of the cold meats, but generally they have been fine. Dairy is fresh and you can't go wrong with milk, butter, eggs....

Over all, we find it great for stocking up the pantry, superb for parties and carry-ins at work (you feed a lot more on the same cost) and we aren't alone as ours is always packed.

g-day!

They are new to market , i believe they are german based? but what i have seen they will leave wal-mart and others behind ,phenomenal growth rate is dangerous but they seem to be going full steam ahead.

Good value for money. Those who adopt a "for chavs"/ "low cost-no good" bias are missing out.

val f1 nutter
it is actually quite a good shop. i go in there because there are a few specific items i like which you can't get elsewhere. i wouldn't buy the fruit and veg though as it doesn't stay fresh for very long.
