ricodiva | ATTENTION ALL WALMART SHOPPERS! Blue light special on isle 5. Why do you shop at Walmart? |
You know that you are getting screwed, everything you buy (with the exception of high fatty foods) will need to be replaced as soon as you get it home. You are only deeping the pockets of billionaires and depleting small business is America. The isle's are always packed, their are kids screaming everywhere and the quality sucks yet American's still shop there. Why? Additional Details I understand that it is cheaper but if you buy a 2.00 mop that normally sells for 10.00 and have to replace it 5 times in a year and the 10.00 mop will last you two years, where is the savings. This is a short term gain for a long term loss. It's like prepaid cellphones and check cashing, but everyone in Ameica is doing it. |

Look, I don't shop at a wall mart. Luckily, I do not have a depleted mind as I'm sure you do not have one either. I already knew everything you just told me. But others need to know what you just said. Major corporations are winning. As they do so they are making hard working small businesses pay, big time. Don't worry about me. I know and DON'T shop there. But thank you for helping spread the message.
Peace. |

Walmart has changed alot since Sam Walton died, and they do put alot of small business out of operation unless you have a speciality shop, it is convience of one stop shopping that makes Walmart so popular, you can drive to one location and get everything you need without driving all over, however I still shop other stores as some have better deals than Walmart when they run specials, especially when grocery shopping, I support the other stores in our small town besides Walmart. I especially don't care for their meats. However most things I have purchased hold up very well other than their underwear. Most of their products are ok, and they are good about replcacing items that are faulty. But as I said things have really changed since Sam Walton died as far as employment benifits and bonuses etc.
I worked in the Pharmacy at Walmart and it is independent of Walmart but still has to follow most of Walmart rules, and I worked with a great bunch of people and Pharmacist, most of the employees are nice if you get to know them. It is the same where ever you work, there are good people and some that aren't so good.
You can still support your smaller business for some of your needs. I don't buy everything I use at Walmart, but I have got some good deals there. You are right about the screaming kids though, but that is the parents fault, not Walmart, If I would have carried on like some of the children do today I would have got my butt whipped right there in the store, but in todays age, someone would complain about a parent disciplining their child! |

Well because of the general low prices. You know the same products are available in many different stores, but if the prices are lower at wally world I'm going.
Oh blue light specials are at Kmart. |

Most products are cheaper at Wal Mart - even things like shampoo, soap, etc are cheaper than other stores - which is why people shop there. I don't shop there because I don't have one close to me, so I'm a Target shopper. |

I don't like Wal-Mart either. They are one of the major reasons that our country's health care costs are rising like they are too. They pay their employees $6.00 an hour and force them on State Health Care Insurance because their plan costs $900 a month with a $15,000 deductible. All of this happens and you would think the government would do more to change that but I'm sure some of our elected officials receive a lot of support from Wal-Mart. They're afraid of Unions just like Time Warner and Comcast because they know they will have to pay their employees a real living wage. Shop at K-Mart/Sears for better quality merchandise. |

I go there to get socks, underwear, cheap shoes, blank VHS tapes, blank CD's and DVD's, trail mix, and fruit juice in the 2-quart bottles.
Other than that, I am not getting anything else from there unless I happen to be in the store buying some of the other items. I can't stand the long lines, the screaming and crying kids, the idiot customers with 100 items in the cart arguing with the cashier over what is on sale and what isn't. I am fortunate to have many of the smaller businesses still in my area in spite of the big-box mega stores. They have better customer service and the people who work there have a brain. |

I agree with you...some things are cheaper like shampoos, razors, blah blah blah but you wait in line all day, the employees look depressed and it's an unpleasant shopping experience!!! |

Its a one-stop shop! Walmart sells everything and you get your moneys worth. If you pay $2 at walmart for a $10 item, you cant complain about quality, but the functions of the product is going to be the same ya know! |

I shop there every once in a while. It is the only place open 24 hours and you can get everything you need there. It is not the kind of place to run in and run out. Their groceries are also cheaper. Walmart doesn't have blue light specials..K Mart does. |

It's cheap, it's a one-stop place for most or all of your shopping needs, and it's cheap.

The blue light special is K-marts gimmick, it sounds like your Walmart is in a large city with alot of customer traffic, our Walmart is in a smaller town and they're hardly ever packed, and they're in the process of turning it into a Super Walmart right now. People love Walmart because its closer to home than the little independent businesses, and personally I haven't found alot of their products to be of poor quality, and their prices fit our wallets. Maybe you're just hitting Walmart on a bad day or on payday |

I totally agree with you on Walmart screwing people and I know this personally because my ex husband works for them and they screwed him out of a week's worth of vacation pay! They not only screw other businesses, they screw their employees. I actually read an article one time about them causing the Vlasic pickle company to go bankrupt because they wanted to sell their pickles at a price that was doing harm to vlasic and they said that if vlasic didn't let them sell their pickles cheaper, that they would refuse to sell any of their products. Walmart does more damage than good in reality! I also recommend not purchasing meat from their stores, either, because they are loaded with dyes! I also experimented with this and I left a small amount of hamburger in my refrigerator for 2 weeks to see if it changed and two weeks later it was still red and looking fresh as ever! |

Well in our town, Walmart is pretty much the only store to shop at. Its about 1 to 2 hours to the next town/city to go anywhere else. When walmart came to our town, we use to have lots of small shops, but they all went out of business. I wouldn't shop there if I could, but being a single mother with not that much money, I can't spend the gas money and the time to go anywhere else...DAMM WALLY WORLD |

Walmart can kiss my *** because they took away layaway. That freakin store chain rakes in billions of dollars and now is giving up layaway because the layaways that are unpaid turn into liquidated assets thus costing the company $$$$. I may be wrong on this but I believe that is why they are doing it. Don't worry though, Kmart will be next and Martha will have to carry them and Sears. Yeah right. |

I live in a rural community. My nearst Wal_mart is 60 miles away. I can go there and buy the same items there at a major savings than I can at any of my local stores. They try to stress shop locally but why get screwed over by a local business when I can actually save money?
Quality is the same when it goes to the food too. Actually probale a little better. Do you think the can of Sunkist Tuna is different there than it is at the grocery store in my town? Is the Mobil One motor oil that I'm getting for a lot cheaper any different than the Mobil One I'm getting at the auto parts store?
As for the crowds I go late at night so I don't have to deal with them.
I prefer to give my money to some billionaires that actually donate to charities, supply jobs to the economy and have items in stock. Compared to my local business that only gives them nicer items at home, or new luxury vechicles to drive. Yet do nothing to help the community where they live in. |

Well, assuming that you asked the question because you really want to know and are not just trying to be the 'Rich Kid Wal-Mart Basher', I will tell you why Wal-Mart survives. I happen to live in a town that has both, the cheap, dept stores, Wal-Mart, K-mart, etc., and the pricier, higher quailty, Mom & Pop's, and designer outlets. I have 3 kids. They are usually going to outgrow, ruin, or lose all clothes that I buy them with in 6 months. I can go to the designer outlets and pay a minimum of $50 for 'Quality' jeans, or go to Wal-mart and pay $10 for jeans that will fit my kids and last as long as they will wear them, and more often than not, they are growing out of them and handing them down before the jeans are quilting material. I have gone to the Designer outlets to get kitchen items with the idea that if I pay more, it will last longer, it will be a better product. But my coffee maker broke after 2 weeks, then when I tried to exchange it, I got an attitude and hassle, it took me 2 more weeks of running around talking with managers and manufacturers to get my money back, because by that time I had went to Wal-mart and got a $30 coffee maker that is STILL working. Mom's and Pop's are good for the smaller, need it on the run things, and stay in business by providing those things that can't be mass produced, like souvineers, artsy, crafty things that you send to relatives as gifts, and papers, coffee, grinders, and long conversations with the chatty cashier. However, I can see how some people do pride themselves on not having to count their pennies who can afford to buy overpriced items in snooty, stuffy, unwelcoming stores. Wal Mart is not for you and if left to grow, these kinds of stores will most likely block the views from the glass houses that you are living in because you are only 10% of the population. |

WALMART, like many other retailers is capitalizing on the habits of society. We have become a society that wants everything, yesterday, we don't want to have to go all over town just to get our shopping done. WALMART is convienent, you can get your oil changed, while you get your hair and nails done. Then shop for little Suzie's school clothes and make groceries, all in one trip. We asked for it, they only delivered and in the meantime make billions. I guess this is a prime example of the phrase " be careful what you ask for".
Oh, and by the way, K-MART is known for "blue light specials". |
