Funny how that happened, isn't it...and funny how all the "free-market competition" in the telecommunications field has resulted only in increased prices and the re-merger of the major carriers time and time again, all for their profit and the price fixing that goes with it.

Because it was bullcrap to break them up in the first place. For certain things, like telecommunications, a monopoly isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Monopolies are not illegal, monopolistic practices that prohibit the emergance of competitors is illegal. They broke them up to put an end to the their corruption, but there is nothing about them getting back together now that the time limit has passed. So long as they don't continue their old ways.
