I work for a mortgage company as the Front Desk Receptionist and also the Human Resources Assistant. I also do many other things on the side such as, filing, mailing, final documents, MERS online, scheduling and other miscellanious things for this office.
I am being paid 8.50 an hour right now. I started here in September of 2006 at 8.50 and i have not seen a bonus or a raise since the day i started. I feel like they are using me and i do way more then i am paid for. Do you agree?

Yes, you are underpaid. I think you should be getting paid $10.00/hr at the least! If they are not willing to give up the money, there are other employers who will. Just make sure you approach them professionally, and sell yourself, like you did here on Answers. Tell them how you just started out being a receptionist, and now your job duties have expanded, and you are doing more than what was initially required. If you are always punctual, reliable, and productive, I don't see why they won't offer you a raise. Good luck!! |

With the blowup in the subprime mortgage sector, now would not be the time to mention it. A lot of mortgage co's are laying off employees.
Unless things turn around soon, and I don't think they will, I think your best bet is to look for another job. Ask for at least 10.00/hr.

I would check salary.com's salary wizard. You can enter your job title (or find a title that matches your duties) and enter your zip code and recieve a scale of the lowest to the highest rates in your area. I've used this several times at the job that I am at just to assure myself that I too am drastically underpaid! :) |
