Cassi D | Any trucking companies who hire people with not-so-good driving records? |
My husband has a few things on his driving record that are keeping him from getting hired at quite a few companies, despite the fact that he has finished truck driving school and acquired a CDL. They are just minor things...2 accidents, (only 1 that he was cited for) and stuff, and they were 2 and a half years ago, but he is still having trouble. So far every company he has applied to has turned him down. Does anyone know of any companies that would "overlook" these discrepencies and hire him anyway? Any ideas would help!! Thanks everyone! |

Well the accidents are one thing that all companies look at, but another and perhaps more important aspect is his experience level, the company I work for will not hire anyone with less than 3 mos. exp. (which isn't all that much) try cdldriverjobs.com. someone there will hire him |

"just minor things'" 2 accidents and "stuff". What is 'stuff?" and within 2 1/2 years??
This minor "stuff" ,if the kind of thing which can put a trucking co out of business. Normally, trucking Co's carry extremely deductable, $ 50,000 and up.
Wipe out somebody's new Saturn and you're looking at a 30,000.00 claim.--not
the kind of thing which lets a trucking co safety manager sleep well at night.
His best bet would be to find a warehouse job in which he might make a local delivery, put some time between him and these violations, then try to get back into trucking. |

Trucking companies already have to absorb high fuel costs. A trucker with an imperfect driving record is too much of a liability for most companies. |

There may be something on his driving record that you aren't aware of. You need to get a copy of his DAC report, that is a report on his driving record and employment record. You can go to www.usis.com and order a copy (in the "consumer" section). Also there are several driver job services that will send out his application to hundreds of trucking companies for free. One i've used in the past is www.jobsintrucking.com. There are many companies that will hire him with a less than perfect record but sometimes those companies aren't the best ones to work for. Also, if the accidents and/or tickets on his record are two and a half years old they'll be coming off his MVR soon. When I started driving 15 years ago I was in the same situation. I had to take a job driving a dump truck locally for a year til some tickets fell off my MVR. Go to a truck stop and get a few of the trucking "magazines" they all have laying around, they're free. I use the term "magazine" loosely because they are really just a bunch of ads for trucking companies with a few articles thrown in. He should drive for a small company first & get some miles on. Truck driving jobs are a dime a dozen. Trucking companies can seldom keep drivers. It is surely the worst job & industry in the world. I fixed trucks for 30 years & I can count on 1 finger the number of times some driver said, "thank you." |
