Are all the banks going to be in trouble now with the problems in America?
All banks are custodian of the people's money which are deposited with them. They must be prudent and professional in using the money entrusted to them by their depositors. To lend them out to people for business purposes and for a profit.
If Banks have good and honest lendings guidelines and policies, they will not be in trouble with the problems in America.

it depends on the bank and its investors and what profits they make

I think this spells trouble for a lot of banks, and maybe problems for a lot of us.

There will be problems all around, let's just hope that they aren't fatal. Many banks have been terribly imprudent with their lending practices in the past seven or so years and they're now starting to feel the hurt from people defaulting on their loans.
If you're looking to invest in equity, look for banks with less exposure to mortgages and mortgage linked derivatives and bonds; instead buy banks with good trading divisions and corporate finance with good links to the commodities markets.
Gloomy times ahead.
