| Are company goals & objectives the same thing as a company's mission statement? |
Are company goals & objectives the same thing as a company's mission statement?
I have to find a company's goals and list them but all I am finding is mission statements, overviews, & values. Is this the same as goals and objectives, b/c it sort of sounds like it, but is different from what my book says. The book says that "goals are objectives that are planned documents that outline how goals are going to be met"
(Robbins&Coulter) Management
Any insight on this would be helpful, I feel a little lost. Thanx Much |

Goals and objectives are near-term measures of specific performance, whereas a mission statement provides a general direction for the long term. The best place to look for measurable goals and objectives is in a company's quarterly or annual report. |

The goals and objectives fulfill the Mission Statement. |

I would say goals has more quality quantity measurement. they want to be #1 in the industry , so they have to increase sales, or they want to be #1 customer satisfaction, they want to provide or believe they have an outstanding customer service. try to read in the mission statement and look for a similar ideas that can be converted as goals |

big companies have many layers of management, and stock owners and employees
most probly the bored people make a mission statement that says employees are slaves and get almost nothing and the stock holders get all the profets.
the employees mission statement is, show up and try to be enthusiastic and look busy , so as to keep the job
the 7 layers of management all have their own ideas and separate mission statements |

Related but not the same. True company goals and objectives should be factual and concrete (sales targets, profit margins, expense limits). A mission statement is usually a bunch of unintelligible words that express an unrealistic, unattainable and unlikely-to-happen promise to the public.
The mission statement of the company I once worked for used this phrase: "We will do everything we can to DELIGHT our customers, vendors, employees and neighbors."
Come on people: What the hell does it mean to "delight" someone? And by the way, the head guy thought it was brilliant and bankrupted the company within two years. |

The goals and objectives are usually met with a task.
The Mission is defining what the company is doing to provide a service, including values, quality, and so forth... |

company gaols and objectives are different than the company's mission statement b/c a statement is just telling you what it should (the company's goal) be like.but the company's gaol is something that the organization is trying to strive for. |

they are not the same, one question can you use churches? to separate the two find there little quote ie Staples "that was easy" there goal is to make staples your one stop shop for office supplies, and how to supply you with the greatest supplies at an affordable price. Hope this helps. |
