Are corporations controlling gas prices so they profit?

No its supply and demand - should have learned our lesson in the 70's for alternative energy but instead we bought what the big 3 thought we dumb americans needed - SUV's. America need's to wake up and use thier heads and quit being influenced by the media.

I could care less as Im heavily invested in the oil companies and doing well.

Retired in Acapulco - good luck with that America

carpediemmaster
It doesn't matter.......the thing is we needed to a long time ago.......
develop alternate fuel......
we haven't and so now we are paying the price

no. speculators and the weak dollar are driving oil. "big oil" makes 5% profit on a gallon of gas. Compared to the 20% taxes the feds charge, 18% the state and local govt charges on average, who exactly should we be angry with?

DJ
big question here that really i do not think we can answer fully! if you are talking about the USA then i would have to say no here. its sad but the Gov't is why the gas keeps going up here. as you may or may not know is the gov't prevents out oil companies from drilling in so many spots!

Something that should not shock you is that this is all to save fish or other animals. now dont think i hate animals, because i do not. i think we need to do our part but not at the cost of killing the econamy.

ok heres something that may shock you if you live in the USA. our oil is being driled by Cuba. about 100 miles off the cost of FL cuba has been setting up oils drilling(closer then our Companies can!) they are drilling our oil on a diagonal!

green velvet
It seems that way, but really there are a lot of different reasons why gas prices go up and "Big Oil" doesn't always have a say in it. Actually, the investors set the price.( Like the guy below from Alcapulco.) Plus, the companies have to pay for drilling it, cleaning it so we can use it and distributing it. Then, the money has to trickle down through a lot of companies so they don't get all the profits. By the way, I'm a Democrat. I just heard a story about this on NPR the other day. :)

Depends who you ask. I don't think so, its too big of a market for oil companies to be able to manipulate. Its tied to the dollar, the stupid war and international demand spiking. but, that's just my humble opinion. tba
