Are corporations evil?

Without a doubt. I work for one.

Consider the following from FairEconomy.org

http://www.faireconomy.org/press/2004/CEOPayRatio_pr.html

In 2003, the average CEO to average worker ratio was 282-1
In 1982, it was just 42-1.

If the minumun wage rate had risen as quickly as the avearge CEO pay rate since 1990, it would now stand at $15.71 an hour.

Are you telling me that your boss, the BIG Boss of your company works 282 times as hard as you, or is worth 282 times what you're worth?

But what really gets me is how corporations will just work people into the ground because it's cheaper than hiring more people. Why hire more people and make 40 Gozillion dollars when we can make our employees work 40 hours a week and then 16 more hours on the weekend and make 41 Gozillion dollars? And not just a weekend here or there, but many weekends in a row.

And it didn't used to be like that. But when the company does immoral things, people can't just leave and get new jobs. They have kids, and mortgages, and retirement, and seniority.

Corporations are cutting health plans and pensions and countless other things (even jobs) to cut costs. And it's very un-American for corporations to pass their profits along to the American worker. The blue-collar American worker is the backbone of this country.

Yes, I hate my job. Thank God I am going to school to do something I want. The only problem is an education isn't going to help anyone get away from corporations. You know the saying,"If you want something, if you work hard enough for it, you can have it?" I know a lot of people that bust their *** and they will never come close to being finacialy happy as they want to be.

The American dream is a myth perpetuated by corporations. Corporations that are evil.

corporations are in practice evil - but they dont have to be - if the people in them and everyone else are prohibited from overpay, then the corporations are okay

set a limit on income and fortunes so that no one is being overpaid [taking out more from society than they put in], then no one will be underpaid [putting in more than they can take out, slavery] and no one will be angry, and no one will be being stolen from, no one will be enslaved to the corporation, and no one will be poor

social tension [disturbance, crime, riots, war, etc] is caused by injustice or theft

1% get 90% of world income - they certainly dont do 90% of the work - they get US$70 trillion [TRILLION]a year - and the other 99% of people get the remaining 10%

setting a limit to fortunes to the most that a person can contribute to society by their work [US$2 million] and spreading the overfortunes and overincomes around equally among every person in the world [one account per person, everyone to open accounts] will give the money back to the people who do the work, and will stop the evils - and everyone in the world including housewives and tertiary students will be on US$15 an hour - EVERY FAMILY WORKING AVERAGE HARD, ON us$75,000 A YEAR - saving 100 million lives a year, and 500 million serious injuries

limiting fortunes was the intention of the first laws made in america to protect the land of the free from becoming a tyranny such as they escaped from in europe - they failed, because of the corporation, but limiting fortunes means we can have the corporations without having the evils

[with fairpay, corporations may fade away]

eg, bill gates puts in one hour's work into society, and gets out a million hours of others' work [$US15 million an hour, his peak workhourly increase of fortune] - which obviously leaves others with a million hours unpaid work to do

it takes only 8000 people being paid between the average and a million times the average to take all the income off everyone in the world - and we are only 10% away from that

money is power, and power corrupts [or evil people are attracted most to power and money] so it is vital to the good health of society to prevent overpay and thus prevent underpay and thus prevent the violence and disturbance [war and crime] that is generated by the theft of money - which is very very important to people since it buys just about everything - food and shelter

the work is spread, and justice is equal pay for equal work, so for justice and peace and survival, the money and power should be spread - else you have violence, escalating endlessly - it is the first duty of citizens of any country to prevent overpay and overpower [tyranny, fascism, corruption, oppression, abuse of human rights, torture, starvation, etc]

since 99% of people will be better paid with justice-peace, there should be a strong majority to get it

and, since, if everyone passes on the message to just two people, everyone in the world will hear of it in just 31 times the time it takes to properly tell two people, it shouldnt be hard to spread the word, if everyone does their bit - and why wouldnt they, when it means more money, and democracy restored?

also it would prevent ww3, which will be the end - everything killed - sun blocked out permanently - triple ice age - thanks to e=mc2

Corporations are considered evil by some but Corporations are very vulerable. Since Corporations have to answer to their stockholders, the Corporations must make their stockholders money. This mean that the Corporation must make a profit each quarter or risk losing investors. You want to change a corporation buy their stock and vote at their meetings. A group of people can pool their resources together and buy the stock of a corporation as they get more money from the corporation then buy more stock. Corporations are very easy to control because a lawsuit or defective product can sink a corporation.
The reason I think that Corporations are considered evil is because they are only concerned about the bottom line and that is profitably for themselves and their stockholders. Still they serve a function in society and no other type of organization is run with machine like effiency. The government is too bureaucratic and the people are not organized.
Management also plays a part in the corporation. Most of your bigger Corporations like Microsoft, Intel, GE, Coca-Cola, Disney, Alcoa, Boening, etc. have good boards and do take a social responsibility to the community. E-Bay, Starbucks, are some corporations that try to give back to the consumer and many corporations donate thousands of dollars every year to some charity.
Its kind of like a double edge sword. Some only care about the bottom line and some do to take care of the worker and the consumer. Bottom line if they do not take care of the consumer, not the worker, they would be out of business.
The worker seems to be the one really hurt because as a company looks for better ways to improve and keep profitably there is always job cuts. I just pray that the workers who are fired can go back to school or find some other place of employment.

They don't start out that way, I believe. But there is great pressure for profits, plus corporations become bureaucracies, just like the government.

applpro
most are. they usually don't give a damn about the individual workers.

gary b
absolutely.

Steve
Yes, they are very evil.
They belong in the axis of evil.

Mark P
Depends...

People are, or are not... evil

If evil people are leading the company, then - probably.
If great (and integrous) leaders are leading corporations, then, no!
