It depends on where you live, who you bank with, how strict your parents are, and how much they trust you. Most Canadian banks and credit unions don't have age limits on chequing accounts.

Sure. They just can't have a checking account.

Well, it depends how old, but if your parents have you connected under their name and account then yes. You get a debit card too.

Sure, both my 9 and 6 year old do. I deposit money weekly. They have more cash than I do, go figure. Yes, they can withdrawl.

Yes.

At least I know that Wells Fargo and Bank of America do. If a child has a social security number.. they are able to have an account. They will need an adult on the account with them, but they can write checks as long as they have an I.D. card issued by the state (because they will most likely be carded when presenting a check) So, as long as your state will issue you an ID card, you can have a checkbook or debit card.

You have to be 18 to have a checking account in your name and write checks. Before that, a gaurdian has the account control and you can make deposits inside bank, but not withdrawls. Also cannot write checks, only use a debit card.

I got a checking account when I was 16. My mom was on the account with me but I was working and that way I could save my money. I opened it with a credit union.
