Sellers have the right to refuse to sell to anyone. I have had a horrible time with one region, which I will not name here. I lost over $700 due to fraud. The seller has every right to protect themselves, and if they don't want to sell to Nigeria they should have indicated they do not ship to that region. Yes, Nigerians are everywhere, so I believe they mean no sales to Nigeria. I have encountered problems when shipping to anywhere but the U.S., Canada and the U.K. All other regions have been a total nightmare and I lost money. |

Many sellers are wary of some buyers because of the negative experiences in dealing with that group of buyers.
Nigeria for example is world famous for its Nigerian scam and credit card frauds. It's not discrimination - but just making sure that you actually get your money.
eBay does not have a policy on who you can sell to or not. If the seller accepts worldwide buyers, except for those countries specified such as Nigeria, then the buyer simply has to find other sellers.
I know a lot of online ecommerce stores, not just sellers on eBay, who refuses to sell to anyone from Nigeria. It's just that the risk is too high given the proliferation of credit card fraud and scams coming from that country. It is unfortunate - and pardon the many honest Nigerians out there -- but Nigeria has been tainted online by the many scams coming out from their country.

You added that Nigerian people live everywhere. Fine. But I sell on ebay, and I NEVER ask the citizenship of a buyer. If the address is US - whether that person is American or Croatian living in the US - then that's fine. You should post the link to that auction as you may be reading too much from the seller's description. |

there are way too many scammers from nigeria bidding to harvest email addys.
they are known as the Nigerian BIN Bandits.

I don't see how they can, if you mean personally, sellers don't have pictures of the bidders/buyers nor know anything about their backgrounds.
Sellers can block certain countries from bidding on their items(postage can be expensive to alot of foreign countries). Sellers can also block anyone with negative ratings(especially the deadbeats who bid but never pay) and block people that bid on their items before and gave negative ratings or who were not reasonable about refunds, etc.
But all of those are for own protection and safety after all the idea is to get paid for the item and enjoy the auctions.
Note: I think the person might be thinking of all the scams coming out of the country of Nigeria.. they have been busting them left and right. (they actually say that in the ad?) |

You'd have to check with e-bay's policy, but if it isn't against e-bays policy, then it's the sellers loss to discreminate against bidders. |
