Are store employees required to provide customers with at least their first name in the state of NY?
I recently had a very bad experience at a retail store (Avenue at 1074 Green Acres Mall in Valley Stream NY) and I called the next day to ask for the names of the employees that were working at the time of the incident. I was told to call back later. I'm just wondering if this is a violation of some consumer right, or if the employee has the right to withhold their name (even if I was only asking for first names).
Additional Details
The manager and what seemed to be the assistant manager was involved in the incident. In fact when I spoke to the actual manager the asst. manager sort of "came to her rescue" while I was complaining about my situation. I have the name of the assistant manager I think because I called again the woman on the phone and was provided the name of her "boss". Thats really all I need if she has to answer to higher ups im sure she'll have to provide names for them. Thank you all for your help!

I worked in New York for years and worked in Retail....Usually the employees has name tags to ID them....with their first name and in some cases the last name....if I had a situation with a customer and they asked for my name I would give the first name....unless they asked for my full name (personally I would give my last name) but working with alot of people......some will not give their last name......what you could do is call Corporate (Main Office) tell them of your experience at that store and what day and what time it happened.....and how it upset it made you......they would find out who was working that day and time in question .......calling back later is only going to piss you off more because in most cases they will tell you that again the next time you call.........or try asking for the Store Manager and telling him what happened........hope this helps in some way

No.....it's not a law. The next time ....get the person's name while you are still at the store. If they refuse ask to see a manager.

You are not entitled to that information. The store has a right to protect the privacy of its employees. You can address your complaint to the manager.

no such law.

They aren't obligated to tell you anything. If you've got a complaint, make it in writing. Note the specific date and time. Beyond that, unless you have been defrauded, you don't have any legal recourse.
