Are the banks making to much money off their clients, and if so is it fair?
NDP Leader Jack Layton is accusing Canada's big banks of "gouging" clients by charging ATM fees to access their own cash. Banks had $19 billion in profits last year.
Yes they are and you can do something about it. Open an account with a credit union and say goodbye to your fa cat bank.

Ive had the same bank for 25 years. When Wells Fargo purchased it they began to fee me for everything. Especially for ATM's. But first they removed some of their ATM's in the area and decreased access so you have to us others and of course they charge me for it. $2.00 to them and $2.00 to the other bank.
They even charge you to print out a receipt if you want one that shows your account balance.I have finally started the process of changing to a credit union.

maybe they should be in the oil business................
?
In Canada it is. In the USA I don't have to pay a fee to access my own banks ATM's.

Of course they do - its a business. They take your money and in turn pay you a small amount of interest on it. They take that same money and loan it out to others - those people PAY interested to the bank at a higher rate than what they are paying you... not to mention the fees and charges on top of all of that.
The fees are not very nice - but it beats storing it in your mattress.

If you use the bank machines from your own bank - you don't pay a fee.
