Are the banks obliged to give you six years of bank statements if a customer requests it?

Clem
Yes, but they can make you pay per statement for it, which often adds up!
One way around it is to write to the bank's data controller asking for info on your past charges under the data protection act. Banks are entitled to charge you up to £10 for the information, however they cannot charge you any more than this, and it normally works out cheaper than their 'statement' charges!

There is more info here:

Smurf
Yes they are but there is a one off £10.00 charge

Megan xxx
I'm with first direct, I just wrote to them and asked for the last 6 years of bank charges (to reclaim) and they sent me the last 6 years bank statements for no charge!

Anna Nichole Smith
youd have to pay for it!

nettie
Yes but at a cost...though it's not prohibitive the amount that the banks charge.

DER METZGERMEISTER
Yes. My friend was being mucked about by hers with excessive charges, so got them much to the bank's annoyance.

Yep. Or you can just ask them for a list of your bank charges for the last six years. It's much easier to do it that way. Costs £10.
