It seems as if you are believing the hype pushed by companies selling directories of survey sites. $3 for a survey taking only a few minutes actually works out at more than minimum wage and is one of the better payments for basic survey work.
Longer surveys will pay more, but will also take longer to do, so the overall rate is about the same. The higher paid are either more involved eg a series of reports over a period of time, or are in a more specific, often harder to fill niche eg top level computer programmers, new car buyers, CEO's. The other option, which pays more is to take part in online focus groups.
The key to success with completing surveys isn't so much the amount you earn per survey, as it shouldn't be considered an alternative to employment, but seeing it as a bit of fun with the added bonus of a little extra income and the occasional test product (often worth a considerable sum).
If you do want to earn from surveys, you need to be systematic and visit a free survey directory like http://www.whichsurveys.com, working through the list of survey sites, signing up to as many as are appropriate. Sites are sorted geographically with a paragraph or two about each one to give you a good idea of what to expect. |

You arent going to get much more than $3 to $10 for MOST surveys. Once you establish yourself, online focus groups pay between $50 and $75 for your time, but dont believe the hype of $150 per hour or exagerated claims for payment... ive been taking plenty of legitimate surveys and the majority are between $3 - $10 for your 10-15 minutes of time - well worth it in my case.
The website I use lists all the FREE paying legitimate survey sites, and categorises them by payment type, paypal, check etc.
