Are there still employers who will hire 50 yr olds?
however, this 50 yr old is a licensed professional with 30 yrs of work experience

Katie
Well it is agaisnt law to not hire someone due to how old they are. In the resume the key is to not put what yrs they graduated in but to say like:
Graduated top of class at so so highschool
Completed College with a Masters degree with Associates in Science

something like that, but much more professional
and for everything else that needs somewhat of a date just word it is the same way as the example above.

If the resume is picked for an interview, dont sweat it. If they drill the person on ages, dates and what-not that is against the law. Employers are not allowed to do this b/c it is against the equal opportunity employer -- law thing. It is very possible for some one 50 yrs old to get a good job that they have expierence for, the trick is in the resume. for good tips on making a resume go to this site.

Sexy Lexie
Yeah..they will but u gotta dye your hair...wear makeup...be a sharp dresser...get a facelift...and not be overweight

Steph
unfortunatly, if it involves physical labor, no. That is one of the first things an employer looks at, whether they should or not.
However, if the job requirement is non laborous, and you have had an impressive impact on past projects,companies,ect.. than Yes.

I hate to say this but I think people hire on looks. Is your hair grey and out of style. Is your dress current. Do you look sloppy, unhealthy or overweight.

There is subtle discrimination and it is very important for older people to appear fresh and motivated and keep up on appropriate skills,

canux1
It is against the law to discriminate in hiring based upon age. If you are over 40, you are in a protected class.

Jay
Yes or you can sue the @ss for age discrimination

Oh yes! My father had the misfortune of every place that he worked for went out of business. His last job was working for a hospital and he got that job at 60! He just needed a couple of years before he could retire and that worked great for him, so no need to worry, things should work out fine.

Sure there are plenty of businesses. legally, businesses can't not hire you based on your age. Except for some specific jobs, ie military.
