Are they closing a lot of Blockbuster stores in your area? Why do you think they are?

Additional Details
They closed the only ones in our area in a thriving little town that has big box operations.

The Internet. The internet has completely revolutionized many different services in many different ways. Look @ Tower Records for example. I understand the internet has been out now for quite some time , but some business didn't really consider the new horizons the internet offered and waited for new comers to take the steak and now that they're are trying to play catch up, it's coming at a price. Now blockbuster has to build the reputation other companies have established like Netflix with the whole mail in thing and tv on-demand stuff.

I KNOW WHY!!! Their online deal has lost them money, people just trade in all their movies for free all the time ( which is why they ask you if you want to get a drink or anything) and they're losing money because people on the online thing definitely get their money's worth and more...
So to save your neighborhood blockbuster: BUY A DRINK OR SOME CANDY OR POPCORN WHEN YOU GO! SAVE BLOCKBUSTER!!!

Not that I've noticed. I did see that they have this online thing and are going after NetFlix. They don't have very many videos to rent and our local grocery store has put in these machines where you can rent relatively new movies and old classics for $1. Thats got to be hurting them. They are much more expensive.

That company is not doing as poorly as people think. They just opened too many a few years ago. Now with so many different outlets to buy and rent movies. NETFLIX and the Internet and PPV on Demand, they don't need a store on every corner.

Supply and demand... supply and demand..

california girl
Yes they are! I think it's because they realized so many people are doing the mail in DVD rentals that they don't need as much stores or employees.

Pacman
No they are still thriving!!

MeInUSA
Not enough business..too much competition from Netflix and products like Redbox ..
