Are we too far from recession?
Can anyone kind enough to tell me, do we have to be an economist or Chancellor to realise that with taxes and cost of living going up every year, but our wages stay the same, or hardly increase, will put ordinary people in a situation that in order to pay the bills, they have to revert to the borrowings from the bank or credit card companies. As we will not be able to continue in a long term, the only option will be bankruptcy and surely soon or later this will result in a recession , if we continue on this trend of putting the taxes up and keeping the wages down. If I am right, why the people in the goverment who will lose their 100K a year salaries don;t do anything about it. I know they don't give a **** about us, but what about their own wealth?

Their own wealth has already been taken care of. As for a recession, yes, this year is going to be bad, particularly for ordinary families with high mortgages who will also have to pay ever upward spiraling utility bills. Already the large shops are declaring poor profits from the christmas buying period and january and february are never profitable months for them so watch out for the march statements. There will be job losses and bankruptcies galore. Look at the share prices, watch Wolseley (plumb centre, plumb base) and kingfisher (b&q) two companies owned by international groups, see their highs and lows - wolseley are worth half of what they were this time last year! The american recession and financial rubbish is affecting us more here than i care to see! Gone are days when our being an 'island' kept us safe from anything!

Recession is near. The thing is not to borroe or get into financial difficulty. You just lower your standard of living to adjust.. Downsize everything..... As regards rhe 100k boys you dont think their salaries are being pegged do you? Or their company profits and dividends. Or the perks and backhanders.

You speaks as if you read today's news in the finance /business section . Goldman Sachs is predicting a recession in the latter part of this year. Foreclosures, Bad credit card debt, rising gas prices etc.. Scary for us all

If we get 2 straight months of job losses. Then we are most likely in a recession.

Start your program of buying gold and silver bullion unobtrusively and keeping it in a safe place, preferably offshore!

We have removed morality from the people, winked at evading the laws, winked at immoral and unethical behavior, sown the wind, and the whirlwind is coming fast.

And no, they feel what they are doing is right for them, who cares about others, and my position is important enough I will not be affected. Besides, I have much stock laid up to serve me for many years, so I can eat, drink, and make merry.

We have been in a recession since the Bush-Cheney regime took over. First thing they did was to slash taxes for the rich. That means less money to fund government programs. Less money to pay health care bills for the poor and uninsured. More sick, untreated workers means more absenteeism, less money in working people's pockets to spend.
Government workers will not cut their own salaries. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts, (Bush appointee) just asked for a humongous pay raise.
