Atm bank fees?
My bank (TCF) which hypes up their totally free banking charges fees when you dont use their atms. So going to a non TCF atm I get charged between 1.50 and 2.50 from that institution and in addition TCF charges me an addtional 2.00 for for not using their atms, so this is about 4.00 a pop. This is an outrage, I called them up and was told that most banks charge their customers for not using their own atms. This is criminal. Does anyone know of any banks that dont punish you for not using their own atms?

Here are some ideas,
Get an account at the bank atm you use the most.

If your atm card has either Nyce or Star symbol. You can use it at merchants and request cash back when entering your pin. Depending on the bank and merchant there may be a pin transaction fee but it would be cheaper than the atm fee. The banks fee will not show on the receipt.

If your atm card has a Visa or Mastercard symbol. You can actual go in a get a Visa or Mastcard Credit cash advance. Subject to your daily transaction limit. There may or may not be fees for doing it this way. Some banks do not realize that the Visa and Mastercard debit cards can be run through the credit card cash advance system. You will need a id for this.

I have TCF bank accounts and it is not CRIMINAL. In fact, you agreed to be charged the fees when you opened the account and signed the account disclosure.

What state are you in? I know TCF operates in the great lakes states. If you're in Wisconsin, there are many banks you can join like Waukesha State Bank or Citizens Bank of Mukwonago that allow you to be in an ATM network that lets you avoid fees.

Yeah, all banks do that. It's not criminal, it's clearly posted on the ATMs that you will get charged for using the ATM if you don't have an account, and then your bank will also fee you. We're not out to rip you off. You agreed to this when you singed up for the account and the ATM/Debit Card. It's also not a punishment, you are paying for a service. To make it convenient, we allow you to use foreign ATMs for a small service fee, we don't have to. There are plenty of banks where you can only use their machines.

No. I'd go with the bank that has the most convienient ATM's if you use ATM's often.
